Some comments about our regular storytelling evenings:

As an advocate for storytelling as an art form and a performer, I am well aware of the crucial role that storytelling clubs must fulfil in providing a vehicle for high quality storytelling for adults. "A Bit Crack" is an exemplary organisation, a real bastion of storytelling in the North, who have consistently provided an outstanding programme of performance storytelling which I feel honoured to have been a part of. The Star and Shadow cinema is a characterful venue, a gem of a find, and the ideal place from which to boost the profile of storytelling in Newcastle. However, the greatest testament to the dedication of the club's organisers must surely be the diversity of the audience: The last time I was there I was entirely unsurprised to find a visiting African youth theatre rubbing shoulders with local authors, a spectrum of humanity gathered in a grand spirit of delight. Tim Ralphs (Storyteller)

Another attractive facet of the A Bit Crack experience is the audience: on the one hand there are members of the audience who now know storytelling well and have been coming to the evenings regularly, in some cases for a long time - this is great for a performer as there are only so many audiences with a strong critical knowledge of storytelling as a performance art, and telling to them continually encourages the teller to raise their game. Yet on the other hand I'm always surprised by the dynamic nature of the audience: there are always significant numbers of people new to storytelling, who are experiencing it for the first time, so it clear that A Bit Crack's evenings are widening exposure to the artform in the area.” Dominic Kelly, storyteller.

These storytelling nights are absolutely unique and gems in the little cultural nightlife of Newcastle. I get lost in the stories, feel the love of a community atmosphere, and my spirits are elated by the combination of these two. Thank you so much for putting these nights on, so regular and reliable! (audience member)

Storytelling is a wonderful, precious craft to be enjoyed and nurtured, and we certainly enjoy coming here. Thank you all for enriching our lives the way you do! (Anne Bowron, Whitley Bay).

Always enchanting, inspiring, I’m so glad A Bit Crack is here in North East to bring interesting storytellers to the stage locally. (audience member)

I don’t come often now as I have kids, but this has been the consistently best ‘nite oot’ in Newcastle for years. (audience member)

Wonderful event! I love to harness my inner child and come here to a warm and welcoming atmosphere where an ancient, heart-warming tradition is kept alive. Since I moved to Newcastle, I’ve been a regular. (Susanne Graaf – international student)
